Rise or fall?
When I am out for a run or walk, I listen to podcasts and audio books. Yesterday, I was listening to James Clear's book Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones. One of the quotes that resonated with me was, “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
What if we as individuals set goals but do not put the systems in place to reach those goals?
Thinking back to my goal to run a marathon, I needed to put a solid structure in place to achieve that goal. I followed a training plan to build up my mileage, ate foods that provided necessary nutrition, and found running gear ideal for the outdoor conditions. There were others in my running group, training for the same marathon, that help me accountable. The support from friends and family also helped me get to the finish line. I had a strong support system in place to achieve my goal.
As a business owner, you probably set yearly goals to increase sales or the number of clients you help.
